THE EVENT

Two days of racing, good company and plenty of time on the water: welcome to the Wave Rally World Championships. Held at Coronation Beach near Geraldton, the event puts a fresh spin on racing by using wave gear. Join sailors from Australia and overseas, take on your mates and chase a world title in an event that celebrates everything we love about windsurfing.

  • The organising authority for this event is Windsurfing Western Australia Inc in conjunction with The Geraldton Windsurf Club Inc.
  • Multi-fin waveboards and wave sails with a maximum of 5 battens are the equipment requirements to enter the event.
  • Racing consists of 10-12 person heats mixed all divisions sailing a fun course through the lagoon & surf for spectacular action!
  • There are sail and fin size restrictions to make the racing super fun! Click on the NOTICES tab above to see the equipment rules.
  • The event is designed to run in 5-35 knots. When conditions are too light for wave gear, generally below 20 knots, the Race Director may switch racing to event-supplied WindSUP boards between heats. The equipment is confirmed before each heat starts and does not change during that heat. Competitors use their own sails, and board use is included in the entry fee.
  • Enjoy the first night 'Sunset Session' and 'Championship Final Beach Party', with DJ entertainment and food available to purchase from the food van. Tables and chairs are provided in the Playas Lounge.

Wave Rally Divisions

Everyone races together in the early heats before competing for a title in their division. The men's weigh-in on day one creates three equal groups: Lightweight, Middleweight and Heavyweight. Open Women, Youth and Masters complete the six divisions. It's a format that brings sailors of different ages together while keeping the racing fair, friendly and exciting.

If Wind Is Too Light For Waveboards

Light wind doesn't mean sitting on the beach. When conditions are too light for wave gear, generally below 20 knots, the Race Director may switch racing to event-supplied WindSUP boards between heats. The equipment is confirmed before each heat starts and does not change during that heat. Competitors use their own sails, and board use is included in the entry fee. Everyone races on the same 10-foot, 240-litre Quatro Glide Air boards. Bring a mast extension that fits a pin-style universal joint to attach your sail. If there's no wind at all, the organiser may run a fun pumping race using the supplied WindSUP boards and competitors’ own sails. Either way, there will be plenty of fun on the water.
